How to Switch NDIS Plan Managers
If you are not happy with your current plan manager, you have every right to switch. You can change plan managers at any time — you do not need to wait for a plan review or reassessment. Here is how it works.
Your Right to Switch
Under the NDIS, participants have the right to choose and change their providers, including their plan manager. This is a fundamental principle of the scheme. No plan manager can prevent you from leaving, and you should never feel locked in.
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1: Choose Your New Plan Manager
Research and choose a new plan manager that meets your needs. Consider factors like invoice processing speed, communication style, reporting, and registration status. See our guide on choosing a plan manager for more details.
Step 2: Complete a Referral
Contact your new plan manager and complete their referral or sign-up process. At Ripper Plan Management, you can complete our online referral form in minutes.
Step 3: Your New Plan Manager Contacts the NDIA
Your new plan manager will update the NDIA's myplace portal to register as your plan manager. This is a straightforward administrative process that your new plan manager handles.
Step 4: Your Old Plan Manager Is Notified
Once the change is processed, your previous plan manager will be notified. They are required to cooperate with the transition and provide any outstanding financial records.
Step 5: Transition Is Complete
Your new plan manager begins processing invoices and managing your plan finances. Any providers you are using will be notified of the new invoicing arrangements.
How Long Does It Take?
The transition typically takes a few business days. During this period:
- Any invoices already submitted to your old plan manager will continue to be processed by them
- New invoices should be sent to your new plan manager
- There should be no gap in service delivery
What About Outstanding Invoices?
Your previous plan manager is responsible for processing any invoices they received before the transition date. Your new plan manager picks up from the transition date onwards.
Do I Need to Tell the NDIA?
No. Your new plan manager handles the notification to the NDIA. You do not need to contact the NDIA directly unless you want to.
Common Concerns
"Will I lose funding?" No. Switching plan managers does not change your NDIS plan or your funding levels. Your plan remains the same — only the financial administrator changes.
"Will my providers be affected?" Your providers will continue delivering services as normal. They will simply send invoices to your new plan manager instead.
"Can my old plan manager refuse to let me leave?" No. You have the right to change plan managers at any time. If a plan manager is making it difficult for you to switch, you can contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
